What are insulated panels?
No structural frames are needed with our kits. The structure is made from interlocking insulated panels, which stay warm in winter and cool in summer.
Pure Insulation
The panels, made in Britian, by Kingspan®, are 100mm insulation wrapped in a metal finish.
Speed of Use
Full height panels come in 1000mm width, which means walls can fly up very quickly.
Interlocking
The interlocking design adds the structural strength needed for the garden room.
Superior Properties
Being made of Kingspan® insulation, the panels are naturally weather and fire resistant.

The frequently asked questions about garden room kits
Why get a kit from Home Garden Spaces?
At Home Garden Spaces we offer installation (including foundation installation) and custom finishing to (e.g. electrics, plastering, cladding, air conditioning etc). We include a home survey to make sure it’s all accessible and suitable for your garden.
Will I need foundations?
Yes, you’ll need a foundation base for the kit to go on. While traditionally this would be a concrete base, here we recommend using (and install ourselves) ground screws with a timber frame to form the foundation. Please see our ground screws page to see more information.
Do you supply only?
Absolutely, we can supply only and get a kit delivered to your door. We can also install and finish the rooms too.
Do I need planning permission?
Short answer: No. Typically, our garden rooms do not require planning permission.
(Assuming you don’t live in a listed building and your home isn’t in a designated area (e.g. a National Park, or an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty AONB)
However, if you’d like to know why garden rooms don’t typically need planning permission, here are the rules:
- Your garden room isn’t positioned in front of your house (if you’ve extended your home, the ‘front’ refers to how it stood on 1st July 1948).
- The combined area of all extensions, sheds, and outbuildings – including your proposed garden room – must not exceed 50% of the total land area surrounding your house (again, this refers to the area as it was on 1st July 1948).
- It is single-storey and less than 3 metres high (4 metres if it has a dual-pitched roof).
- If it’s within 2 metres of your boundary.
- The eaves are no higher than 2.5 metres above ground level.
- It doesn’t have a balcony, veranda, or raised platform.
- It isn’t designed to be self-contained living accommodation.

We do not recommend log burners being installed in our garden rooms. As the insulated panels are so thermally efficient, a log burner would produce too much heat for the garden room. Should you decide to install a log burning stove or similar solid fuel burner, we would strongly recommend that this is carried out by a specialist HETAS approved contractor, to ensure that the installation is suited to our products.
No need for concrete foundations
At Home Garden Spaces, we recommend our kits are paired with ground screw foundations. Which are quicker, cheaper and more environmentally friendly than concrete. See more about our Ground Screws here:
